Sudan is facing a crisis of catastrophic proportions. Over the past year, the country has been torn apart by a brutal war, leaving countless innocent people in desperate need of help. WHY SHINE ON SUDAN?

Tragic Actions Taking Place

DIRE SITUATION IN SUDAN

Entire communities have been torn apart by relentless violence, and thousands of men, women, and children have lost their lives. Families have been uprooted, forced to flee their homes to escape the terror. With nowhere to go and resources stretched thin, basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical supplies are scarce, leaving vulnerable populations at risk of starvation, disease, and death.

Conservative estimates say the conflict has killed at least 15,500 people, while some estimates are as high as 150,000, and counting. Over 10 million people have been internally displaced and over 2 million refugees have fled to neighboring countries since April.

Innocent civilians have been caught in the crossfire, with indiscriminate bombings, targeted killings, and rampant sexual violence becoming disturbingly common. The infrastructure has been decimated, hospitals, houses of worship, and schools reduced to rubble, making it nearly impossible for survivors to receive the care and education they desperately need.

THE NEEDS DURING THIS CRISIS

In the face of such overwhelming devastation, the need for peace and humanitarian intervention has never been more critical.
Shine On Sudan is our collective effort to demand an end to the violence and to support those who are suffering. Before the conflict, Sudan was already experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis. Long-term political
instability and economic pressures meant that 15.8 million people were in need of humanitarian aid.
The conflict has only exacerbated these conditions, leaving almost 25 million people — more than half of Sudan’s population — in need. 222,000 children could die of malnutrition in the coming months, the U.N. has warned.
